Rotator Cuff Therapy Exercises

Rotator Cuff Pain Recommendations

This is a brief compilation of my recommendations for your rotator cuff recovery.

These are the best products and services that I have come across in the time that I have studied this subject matter.

All of these have certainly helped me rehabilitate and condition my rotator cuff. I use some of these to keep my rotator cuff strong and healthy. I hope you find these helpful as well.

TheraBand

Theraband resistance bands are widely used for rehabilitation from muscle and joint injuries and for aerobics and general conditioning.

TheraBands are the only resistive exercise bands endorsed by the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA).  These wide latex bands come in different, color-coded resistance levels, distinguished by the thickness of the band.

The 25 Yard latex free ones are some of the best

Altus Athletic Dumbbell Set

You want to make sure you use the right kind of dumbells during your rehab and recovery or you will end up worsening your rotator cuff.  Get the Altus dumbbell set for the best price here.

Good thing about these multi purpose dumbbells is that you can use them for all kinds of other exercises as well.  I own a set of these myself and am very happy with them.  The handle well, don't cause any damage to walls, floors and carpet and best of all always remain clean.  The surface makes it easy to wipe over with a wet towel to sanitize them.

The Elasto Gel Shoulder Wrap

This is one of the best products you can get to aid in healing your rotator cuff injury.  Elasto-Gel therapy products are made utlilizing a tough, flexible high glycerine gel that is covered with a four way stretch material that allows maximum conformity, hot and cold transfer and comfort.

Shoulder Support

A more economical alternative to the Elasto Gel Shoulder Wrap is this EVS Shoulder Wrap.  It is pretty effective and a great product for a great price.

Moist Heating Pads - TheraTherm Digital Moist Heating Pads

Personally my favorite healing supplement are the moist heating pads that I have repeatedly used.  These are moist forms of heat, as opposed to rough dry ones.  You don't need to add any water.  These are extremely effective and soothing.  It will definitely make your pain go away. I can attest to that from experience.

Some Excellent Books and DVDs on the subject that I have come across over the years

Stronger Shoulders - Improving the Function of the Rotator Cuff DVD

This video leaves no stone unturned regarding optimal shoulder health. John spends close to 60 minutes of the video explaining the function of the rotator cuff muscles in relation to the scapula and deltoids. Trainers and lifters alike will benefit from this video because of it dozens and dozens of useful mobility, core strengthening techniques, and shoulder exercises.

Highly Recommend This - I've seen and gone through the video myself

The Athlete's Shoulder

"This massive multi-authored opus is a goldmine of precious nuggets of information not readily available in another form. It should find a place in every orthopaedic department's library and on the bookshelf of all healthcare providers with a serious interest in the shoulder." Journal of Joint and Bone Surgery, July 2009

I highly recommend this for you if you want to develop subject matter expertise.  It is a definite must read for all athletes. So if you are one, or know of one who is suffering from rotator cuff injury, I highly recommend this excellent book.

The 7 Minute Rotator Cuff Solution

This is one of the best books, if not the best, on rotator cuff pain and how to heal your rotator cuff.

I have read this book in its entirety at least three times and still pick up something new from it each time I read it.

You can read my detailed discussion of the 7 Minute Rotator Cuff Solution here.
